Learnings on Sept 13, 2007

Sept 13 was my elder daughters birth day . I took off that day from work after a long time
The part started well. My second daughter  was crying  because of the noise kids made and I had to wait silently outside to calm her

I feel this job was more challenging and difficult than project management. Here is a child eight months old who cannot understand you and she is crying and you have to manage to make her calm.To do the same, I cannot become angry or shout at here, but find ways how to make her calm by being patient and cajoling her. I did not leave any options to smoothen her and  I succeeded by giving her the Alphabet toy of my elder daughter. Can I learn this patience in professional life, things may become better......

Windows System state analyzer tool

When I was working on vista, I found this tool that will be helpful to install developers and IT pros to identify the delat change in their machine during installation of an application. It looks helpful to me.

It helps me to  create snapshots of the computer—some of which include fixed drives, services, drivers and the registry. Users can create two snapshots at different points in time and compare them to view differences. A detailed report could be generated at the end of a compare operation.

Wizard control with designer support for Forms applications

I visited an article from one of my colleague Manish. This is about building a Wizard for Windows Forms applications for .Net 2.0
What I was impressed  with the article is
  • The designer support provided by the article  at design time
  • You can write wizard page as user controls
  • The wizard provides a designer interface where you can add user controls as wizard pages.
  • The order of the wizard pages can be easily changed using the designer
  • The beauty is he has also provided with methods PreviousAction and NextAction method that the framework calls when the user tries to naviage through the wizard and the coresponding events are fired to which an application has subscribe to
